Medication Abortion Follow-Up
Follow-up: You can either return to our clinic for a free check-up, complete a series of blood tests or take a home pregnancy test in 1 month to make sure the medication abortion is complete.
If you are returning to our clinic: An appointment will be made for you to come back in 1-2 weeks. We will do an ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy has passed. Most check-up appointments take about 30-60 minutes total. The check-up is FREE.
If you are doing the blood tests: Go in for a second blood test early the following week OR return to RRWC for a blood draw. We will receive the results; our doctor will review them and our nurse will call you with the results.
If you are doing the home pregnancy test in 1 month: All of your pregnancy symptoms should be gone within one week. We will have you fill out a secure online questionnaire to confirm this. You should have a negative pregnancy in 4-5 weeks.
In the rare case that the medication abortion is incomplete, you may need to take an additional dose of misoprostol or simply wait and return for another visit in a week or two. If the pregnancy is still growing, however, you will need a procedure abortion.
